Migrate JIRA 6.1 to cloud

Grant Fidler May 7, 2019

Hi guys, wonder if anyone can help me out here.  Basically we have an old 6.1 install which we want to migrate to the cloud offering.  I've read that we need to be at 7.6.0 before we can do this, but can anyone advise what the upgrade path is from 6.1 to 7.6 please?

Cheers,

Grant

6.1 -> 6.4 -> 7.0 -> 7.6 (although I'd recommend 7.13 - the more recent the Jira version, the easier the migration to Cloud)

Do NOT skip 6.4 to 7.0 - it causes all sorts of problems later in the process.

Hi @Grant Fidler

You need to do the following

Please always run the add-on checker between version upgrade and update any add-ons that need to be updated.

  1. Upgrade Jira from 6.1 to 6.4.14 first.
  2. Upgrade to Jira 7.0.10 next. (If you ever used Jira Service Desk do install it here as this triggers the update and avoids a problem with v3.1 of the add-on.
  3. Upgrade to 7.6.

Between version upgrade please read the changes to supported platforms and also what changed between versions that are skipped in the respective upgrade guides.

Hope this helps.
