I repeatable get a situation where the avatars for most users (on the Kanban board for example) are replaced by the default avatar. It correctly shows my avatar and that of (at least) one other user but not the rest. The avatars correctly show up when other users log in to the same board.
I have tried clearing my browser cache and tried a different browser but this does not help. I have enven tried from another machine but this still does not help.
In case it is significant, I notice that the url of the avatar that shows correctly takes the form ( I have edited the jir...snip..com and username parts)
https://jira...snip...com/secure/useravatar?avatarId=10105
while those taht fail take the form
https://jira...snip...com/secure/useravatar?ownerId=username&avatarId=10603
Any suggestions?
Regards, Bruce
I just did an export from OnDemand and imported it into JIRA 6.2. The personal avatars were not migrated as part of the data
This also happened with my on-demand instance just recently when Atlassian moved to having a separate user management system. (We were using Confluence with Jira doing user management; that just change this past week.)

Also, can you try reindexing the JIRA instance.

Are you using Gravatar? If so you may want to try disabling it.
Theres also some KBs on this: https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRAKB/Project+Avatars+Missing+after+JIRA+Upgrade+or+Migration
