Moving issues within a heirarchy

derek_cross March 11, 2022

I have created a Task under an Epic by mistake.  I really want it to be under a Story (which itself is under the same Epic).  Can I move the Task to the correct hierarchy?

What I have

Epic #1 -> Story #1

Epic #1 -> Story #2

Epic #1 -> Task #1

What I want

Epic #1 -> Story #1 -> Task #1

Epic #1 -> Story #2

I've discovered a two-step process:

Raise the Task to be a Story (using "Move") so it's a peer, then "move" the Story to a Task (during which you're asked which Story should be the parent).

Hi @derek_cross

You may want to try out the newly released Move and Organize for Jira app which you can use to drag-n-drop issue(s) to different levels in the hierarchy easily.

It allows you to visually overview and also edit on-the-fly (create, edit, recursively move, delete et c) issues. Zoom and pan the tree view quickly and smoothly using keyboard shortcuts and mouse drag-n-drop support that enable you to work very efficiently also with larger projects!

Finally, it does not require any customization of your existing Jira projects - it plugs in directly for your users without making any non-standard customizations to the project or its issues.

Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or would like to provide suggestions!

With best regards,

Erik
