Moving my tickets into done status "Released" is not letting me complete the sprint.

Ghufran Farooqui September 9, 2023

I have a new done status called "Released" that comes after "Done" on my sprint board. But when I try to close the sprint I am asked to complete the tickets that are in "Released" status.

For the sub-tasks, my work flow stops as "Done" where as my workflow finishes at "Released" for the story. This is because we release the story in production and not the sub-task and our release cycles are not always aligned to our sprint completion (hot fixes and all).

I've attached screenshots that seemed relevant to me. How do I resolve this?Jira issue.jpg

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Are your issues and all their sub-tasks in the very last column of the sprint board?

The status and status category are utterly irrelevant here, you need the subtasks to be in the last column on the board.

Hi Nic,

What do you mean subtasks to be in the last column? My subtasks don't show on the board, just the stories.

Also I noted that all the stories it marked as having incomplete tasks are in "Released" status. I rechecked and all their subtasks were marked as "Done".

For a board to see an issue (of any type) as "done", it must be in the last column of the board.  The error message you are seeing is there because your "done" issues do not have all their sub-tasks done (in fact, none of your sub-tasks are done)

You now have two problems with your set up:

  • Sub-tasks can not get into the "done" column, because they can not be in a status that is in that column.
  • Sub-tasks can not get into the "done" column, because they are not on the board.

The solution is

  1. Include sub-tasks on the board (I recommend adding a quick-filter to the board so you can hide them when you need to - "issuetype in standardissuetypes()" should do it)
  2. Change the "done" column, so that it includes the sub-task's "done" status.  As is, this would break your process for the base-level issues, so I would also
    1. change the sub-task workflow so that instead of ending in "done", they end in a different status ("finished", "sub-task done", or something that better tells your people what is happening).
    2. Then map that status into the last column on the board alongside "Release".

Thanks Nic. How do I map the status to Release?

Also, the subtasks are marked as done as denoted in the last screenshot on the attached image.

One more thing, when I changed the status of one of the problem tickets to "Done" and tried to close the sprint, that ticket was not picked up as a problem ticket. Only the tickets marked as "Released" are creating this problem.

Again, the status and status category are utterly irrelevant.

You need the subtasks to be in the last column on the board.  Your sub-tasks are not marked done, because they are not in the last column.

You map status into columns in the board configuration.

Thanks Najm for the comment, I have done what is mentioned in the above link. "Released" is the last column on my sprint board.
