When I create a Task or Story, I have the option to select which epic I want it to associate with. When I create a Subtask under any given Task or Story, I'm unable to link it to the appropriate Epic. I thought when I made a subtask under a Task or Story that it would automatically connect to the parent Task or Story's Epic. Help please. Thanks!

Hello @Taylor Ruffing

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

An issue can have only one "parent" issue. The "parent" of the Subtask is the Task or Story under which you create it. The Task/Story's "parent" is the Epic. The Subtask does not connect directly to the Epic.

Why do you think the Subtask should connect directly to the Epic? Is there some problem you are trying to solve where you think that is needed?

That makes sense. The problem is that when I go to my Kanban board, the subtasks don't show up on the board unless I type in a keyword that I know is in the title. They only show up if I click into their parent issue. Then, if I do type in a keyword, they don't show up where the related tasks or parent issues are, they show up on the bottom under "issues without epics."

Hello @Taylor Ruffing

Are you working with a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project? That information will show at the bottom of the navigation panel on the left.

Are you working with a Software project or a Work Management project? If you see navigation options like Board, Issues, and Reports in the navigation pane on the left then you are working with a Software project. If you see the options horizontally across the top of the screen then you are working with a Work Management project.

Can you provide a screen image of your board?

Depending on the type of project there are different options/functionality that is available for displaying subtasks. When we know the type of project you're using we can offer advice specific to your scenario.

Hi @Taylor Ruffing

By default, subtasks are linked to an issue which is itself linked to an Epic, but a subtask is not directly linked to the Epic. It seems that you can make it work with an automation, I suggest you to take a look at this topics, see if it helps:
