Not able to see the custom field in the Approver source in the approval step

I have created a custom field "TClient Approver" (Type - Group Picker (single group)) setting it to the global context.

I want to use this field in the Approver source under the Approval Step but I cannot see it in the drop-down. Attaching the screenshot.

Any help would be appreciated.

Interesting problem to try and solve. 

A few questions from me to help triage: 

1. The custom field type, from the documentation, only denotes User Picker (multiple groups).
