Notifications in Jira

When I look at the little notification bell in Jira, I see 3 options: Direct, Watching and Requests.  I know what Direct and Watching entail, but what are the Requests?  I never see any in that tab.  Tried Atlassian's site and Google, but couldn't find anything referring to the notifications within Jira.

Hi @Brian Selewski Those mainly show site access requests from other users.
