Hello!
I'm managing a large development Project that includes both Hardware and Software, and also includes testing, verification/validation, data collection, etc.

We're using Jira, and we've been using BigPicture (Appfire) to visualize the entire project as a Gantt.

At some level, (Story or Epic) leads have estimated how much time they need to complete their work (Original Estimates), and for simplicity we've decided that Original Estimates could be translated to Story Points (1 Day = 2 story points).

Progress on activities can be indicated using '% Done' (Although we may automate so that changes in Task status automatically increase the % done).

Given that all activities are estimated, one would expect it to be relatively easy to then make a Progress Report that would show the Burndown of the Original Estimates/Story Points as the progress Progresses.

I'd love to be able to show an Overall Burndown for the Project, or at least a Burndown for each software release as we move from one to another.

It appears I can't do this in Jira (Cloud) as we don't use Sprints.  Is there a way to get around this to show a Burndown for the project as a whole, or to do a Burndown for each release? @

Hi @andrew_rockwell

Unfortunately, that's something that native Jira doesn't support. If you have a strong need for this, there's definitely Atlassian Marketplace apps that provide this functionality and that you could try.

Dashboard Hub, one of our Appfire apps, is certainly one of them. In your specific use case, you can configure the Sprint Burndown pre-built gadget by Board instead of Sprint –  and then select either Original Estimates or Story Points as the estimation statistic.

This app has a free 30 day trial, why don't you give it a try? Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi @andrew_rockwell,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I'm afraid that this cannot be done by using Jira's default reports or gadgets. Most likely you will need a plugin from Atlassian Marketplace.

If you consider the option of using a plugin, take a look over our Great Gadgets app because it offers some gadgets that will fully fill your needs.

By using the Release Burdown Burnup Chart gadget offered by our app, you can generate an overall burndown or burnup chart based on Story Points or Original Estimates. Optionally, it can also make and display the forecast of the release ETA, and can display milestones and their completion status.

All you have to do is to configure the gadget with a filter/JQL that returns the issues from your release and the the release timeline.

See this article on how to configure it: https://community.atlassian.com/forums/App-Central-articles/Creating-a-cross-teams-release-burndown-chart-in-Jira-with-Great/ba-p/1803421

The app offers gadgets for other agile metrics such as velocity, sprint burdown, etc. See more in these articles:
