Permission based on groups

Jonathan Luiz June 30, 2025

I have different projects on Jira that I manage the members based on the groups. But a specific project, the same approach doesn't work, was necessary to include every person separately as a member.

The type of Jira project is Business Project.

Hello,

Welcome to community :)

I understand you have a JWM team managed business project .

You navigate to project settings> access > invite the group and give them a role to access to the projects

By inviting the group the the users in the group are unable see the project and its issues

But if the same users are invited 1-1 to this prject then they are able to see the issues ?

Could you please elaborate on below

- which role are you trying to give the group that you invited ?

- when you navigate to manage roles in the same page ( project settings access ) does that role have relevany access ticked

Could you please compare what is different when you invite the group vs the users

You can also raise a ticekt here https://support.atlassian.com/contact/ so taht supprt can take access to your instance and check directly what is wroing here

Thank You,

prachi

Hi @Jonathan Luiz

Are all projects "Company managed"? Then I should recommend to investigate if they share the same permission scheme and if there is a difference when it comes to the permission "Browse projects"

If one of the projects are "Team managed" then it is by design. You have to add users to the project and assign them roles since Team managed projects doesn't use groups to handle permissions.

Yes, it's a Team-managed business.

I didn't receive any issue, but the members in the group received the message "You don't have access to this work item".

The access only worked when I included the people without a group as a member, and this is my question. Why does this project not work with permission based on the groups and other works?
