Please help, Sprints and Epics don't show for project after renaming it

Anton Vasserman April 7, 2025

I'm have a Jira project that I've renamed, and changed the code for as well (from EC to CL for this example).

Now whenever I add an Epic, it shows in the Epic panel, but disappears after the first refresh.

Similar thing with Sprints, where even though I have sprints set up, they do not show under the project's sprints when assigning a sprint to an item.

Below you can see that after turning off "Only show sprints in this project" the relevant sprints do show up (202504-2 and 202504-3)

This issue isn't reproducing in a different project who I haven't renamed.

Please help

Can be closed, as I ended up just deleting and re-creating the project since there are known issues after changing the key.

Hello @Anton Vasserman

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Is this for a Company Managed project?

After changing the project Key did you delete the old key?

If this is for a Company Managed project, did you update the Filter used by the board to ensure it uses the new project Key?

Thanks for the quick response!
No this is a team managed project.
And no I don't think I've deleted the old one in any way.

Do you have any custom filters applied to the view?

I found a few issues related to changed project keys and team managed projects:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-83257

No I do not have any custom filters.
I see the issues, bummer that it breaks like that.
I wonder if there is a proper fix, or should I just recreate the project from scratch?

Consider changing the project key back to what it was originally and see if that resolves the problem.

Is there a reason why you could not use the original project key, and change only the name?

Setting up the project from scratch would result in not having the historic data of previous sprints. If you tried to move the issues from the original project to the new project you could experience some data loss.

Yeah since this is a small personal project it's not a big deal to just re-create the project again, which is what I ended up doing.

I wanted the name and key to align in a certain way, so I really preferred not to use the older one.

Hi @Anton Vasserman , welcome to the Atlassian Community and thanks for your post.

Please check the filters on the boards you are looking at. They are likely configured for name you replaced.

You can navigate to the list of boards here ^ and then filter by project to check the filters for each board.

If you need more help, please write again.

Best wishes

Thanks for the quick response.
I don't have any filters for the boards, I think this is due to using Teams Managed project.
On top of that this is an issue with the Backlog and not the Board, I'm missing my Epics in the Epic Panel, not the Board itself.

The backlog representation and board use the same (board) filter. The control switch "use epic panel" switches the epics from appearing in the backlog listed (they go to the epic panel instead).

Kind regards,
Dick
