Problems with Ranking?

Beginner in JIRA configuring here.

We have recently added the new "rank" field for all issue types.

As I understood it, rank value should be equivalent to the position in our sprint planning backlog - correct?

However, "rank" (project based?) and "global rank" (all projects?) values seem to be corrupted - http://imgur.com/CftZx6G

Am I missing something?

I believe that ranking only works if you use the JIRA Agile plugin, and in that case those fields are added automatically to your JIRA fields list (not a custom field that you have to create).
