REST API configuration for desktop application

Hi!

I am looking into developing a desktop program to integrate with JIRA. This is not to substitute any JIRA functionality but instead to provide a personalised view for non-technical people who can't spend too much time understanding what JIRA is or does in sufficient detail.

Obviously, because of this, there is no origin URL but that seems to be required to get an API key. 

What am I missing here? Any tips, please?

You will need to either use your own login details (email address and API token) or else (preferred) create a generic user for this.
