About how "Parent" field shows only issues except the ones in CLOSED status.

Hi Team 
Our team has a concern about how can we make "PARENT" field show only the Issues that are in OPEN & other statuses excluding the CLOSED status ones

We are trying to manage the metrics here 

Also to brief in detail 

In Jira PARENT field  is listing the EPICs which are already closed as well
For instance “ this epic listed in drop down, though the epic is closed . The drop down list should only list open epic so that user can select correct epic for given the JIRA

Can anyone help\suggest anything here ?

You won't be able to do that with out of the box Jira. Maybe the ScriptRunner Behaviours app can do it
