Hi
I need to modify my workflow and add custom statuses
Right now there's three categories - To Do, In Progress and Done that I can choose for a new status.
I don't see where I can create a new category , maybe I'm just missing somehthing.
I need to create a status with category "Canceled" so I can create statuses in To Do, In Progress, Done and Canceled with red colour.
How can I achieve that ?
Thank you
Hi Dmitriy - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
No, you cannot add more categories. However, you should add the Canceled status as a Done category type since it is a final resolution type of status.
No you can't add more colors like red either.
Is there something special you are trying to do with Canceled cards?
Hi and thank you for your answer.
A Canceled issue is not Done as Done means that something has been worked on and the work is finished (no matter the outcome).
I'm in charge of some sizeable software projects which we manage on Github and I was thinking to give Jira a go.
Current out of the box workflows do not suit our managing schemes, that's why I was trying to create custom workflows with statuses that fit our way of working.
We currently have a backlog which is categorized by origin of issue (field personell, management, stakeholder, consultants, customers etc...)
Working on status (in progress) that marks all issues that are ongoing some kind of state change (development, troubleshooting, testing , etc..)
Canceled issues (rejected by reviewers, pushed forward, duplicates or similar, put on hold, etc..)
and finally completed issues that can have statuses Done Dev, Done test, released, shipped, actiated (SaS) etc...
I would like to recreate this workflow with kanban colums and colors for each root category.
Is this not possible with your product ?

Dmitriy

Well, I have to disagree with you in regards to the Done category. The category designation refers to items that have reached a resolution and no more work will be done.
This might be because it was indeed completed. Or it might mean that is canceled or aborted or abandoned or for whatever reason it was decided it would not be completed. But it is indeed "done".
I doubt very much that Atlassian would be changing this any time soon. So you will need to work within the parameters given you.
And I am just a user as you are. It is not "my product".

Thank you John for your answer. Apologies for mistaking you for a staff member.
Whether we agree or disagree on how categories and statuses should be viewed is irrelevant :)
There are established ways of working and business processes that are own to each business and department. They are the source of truth and are made efficient by use of products that are adaptable to support these processes. You don't change a working flow just because a third party product does not support it. You either find another product that suits your need or develop your own.
Thank you for your time

Regardless, you are limited by the product you are using. And again, in my opinion, Canceled is very much a Done type resolution category.
Good Luck!
