We have the following Hierarchy:
With example plan:
When I look at any issue in core Jira that is the child of one issue and the parent of another in my plan (for Example STI-7 or CLP-2) I can see a section of the Child isssues, but nothing to indicate the parent issue:
First example
Second Example
Should I not have a similar section/link type showing me the parent issue?
Hi @Karin van Driel , while I believe there are some plugins that display the entire hierarchy within an issue (such as Structure), the parent of an issue is instead shown through the Parent Link or Epic Link field which should be available on the right side menu of the issue you're looking at.
Hi, @Karin van Driel. IF you are so inclined, you can learn more about Structure (mentioned by @Michael Andolfatto above) on the Atlassian Marketplace.
Best,
-dave
P.S. I work for the company that develops Structure.

Hi @Michael Andolfatto ,
Thanks for your response. I don't feel we need the full hierarchy to show within an issue, just the direct parent and children.
We're not seeing anything related to this on the right side of the ticket either:
There is a separate section for Children, but this is on the left side of the ticket. I expect that maybe this has to do with layout then?
Is there a field I need to ask to the screen perhaps? The Children showed up without me doing anything to the screen or the layout, but perhaps the Parent is a field that I'm missing there? What is the field called, in that case?
Thanks again :)

Hi @Karin van Driel ,
Yes in this case one of two things is probably happening:
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
And just to clarify, Epic Link works great on Stories, but I assumed it would not be used on anything above that level, as they would not be Epics that are being linked to. Thanks for giving me the thought though, I'll see if I can add the Epic or Parent link to the screen for these issue types and see if that shows something.

Looks like it was the Parent Link being missing. Thanks @Michael Andolfatto for pointing me at that. The fact that the children appeared automagically without me doing anything to the screen layout threw me for a loop!

According to this post, adding a parent should visualize it in the issue view.
Maybe this change hasn't rolled out to your site yet. I've not seen it myself either.

FYI, according to the article you cite, @Dave Mathijs, that functionality is not yet released (to anyone). But, you may know something that we don't. And, I am assuming the author would update that "Note" when the time comes.
"Note: The functionality outlined below in this post is not yet available. We’re currently working at building out these new experiences and will provide additional updates as we get closer to our release date."

@Dave Mathijs ,
Thanks, I'm aware of that post, as I'm following it in anticipation for a different reason (proper renaming of our the Jira Epic so we can just call it Feature and see the related field labels like 'Epic Link' and Epic in the Boards reflect this).
I did not see anything in this post regarding linking of issues above the Jira Epic in the Advanced Roadmap hierarchy, it just seemed to talk about the Epic Link being replaced by the Parent Link we have in Team Managed projects, but maybe I misinterpreted something.
@Dave Rosenlund _Trundl_ - I did see an email about this post come through today, talking about the deprecation of the Epic Name and using the Epic's Issue Summary everywhere instead and the Issue Color and Status Category. It said those changes are due to roll out on March 22nd, 2023. So I guess this might be the beginning of the rollout of all the features in the post. We can but hope as the post initially indicated all this would be available in Q1 last year :)

Thanks @Dave Rosenlund _Trundl_ and @Dave Mathijs for thinking along, it seems the Parent Link field was the missing link! :)
