Advanced Roadmaps for Jira Cloud: Group by Project and display bottom-up estimates on project level

Joelle Güfel March 17, 2021

Hi there,

I am relatively new to Advanced Roadmaps for Jira and on the search for the answer to a very specific question. I have already browsed community posts for my problem but haven't quite found what I am looking for. So here goes.

As you can see in the screenshot below, I have built a Roadmap displaying Epics > Stories > Sub-tasks and grouped the issues by project. The 2 big, bright, orange bars are my addition (with the power of editing screenshots ;)) and what I would like the Roadmap to display. Is it possible to aggregate the estimates of the issues (in this case the time between start and end date) bottom-up to the level of project?

Why? We would like to visualize how long projects will last without having to go into the detail view. As you can see in the screenshot below, as soon as I minimize the view, the bars are gone and I have no indicator about the duration of the project.

Any tips or workarounds how to make this happen?

Thanks in advance for your answers and suggestions!

Cheers,
Joelle

Hi @Joelle Güfel,

As @elizabeth_jones there is a roll-up functionality, however this is only shown on issue rows and not on the group heading (which is what I think you're after?).

The ability to roll-up data to the group heading is something we've heard quite often but is not something that we have prioritised to implement in the near future unfortunately. Not because it wouldn't be a useful feature, but simply because it doesn't have a high enough relative priority against other work that we need to do. Unfortunately we have a lot more that we'd like to get done that we have developers to get things done so this means that we have to prioritise work carefully. I can see this being something that we'd want to add, but unfortunately not in the near future.

Regards,

Dave

Hi @Dave,

thank you for your detailed explanation. Are there other plans to create an overview of multiple projects?

Alternatively, I could imagine that our client would be willing to invest in programming an additional app. However, this would require access to the REST-API of Advanced Roadmaps. Is there any documentation on this so that we could tackle this?

Best regards,
Thomas

Hi @Dave

thanks for the answer and the transparency about the (unfortunately) low priorization on the future roadmap!

We'll be looking into alternative features or apps for this requirement then. Structure and Structure.Gantt seem to be a fitting candidate for visualizing duration on the project level :)

Cheers,
Joelle

No worries @Joelle Güfel - I appreciate your candour here. I'll make sure to feed this back to our Product Management team so they're aware of this.

@Thomas Egger No plans at the moment beyond the current offerings. Unfortunately there is no supported public REST API available for the Cloud version of Advanced Roadmaps.

Dave

In your roadmap you can choose to rollup dates, I think this will accomplish what you are asking. Additionally, you can add fields for progress bars in the fields section that show both tasks complete and story points complete and you can use one, the other, or both. Let me know if that helps get you the view you need. Screen Shot 2021-03-17 at 3.41.24 PM.png

Hi @elizabeth_jones ,

thank you for your answer. I already tried playing around with the roll-up function but as Dave mentions in his comment, this only works for issues and not for group headers. So, unfortunately, this does not quite meet my requirements :(

Cheers,
Joelle
