All the sub tasks and linked defects are closed but User story is still not getting closed. How to close this user story?

Hi @Raveesha Singh,

are you referring to demanding that the story is closed automatically if the related issues are closed? Since this functionality isn't available in Jira out-of-the box, you'll need a 3rd party app, e.g.

Maybe one in this list is already present on your instance. A complete list of workflow related apps can be found here: https://marketplace.atlassian.com/search?category=Workflow

Jira Workflow Toolbox, for example, provides a Transition issues (https://apps.decadis.net/display/JWT/Transition+issues) post function that can be used here.

Best regards,
Thorsten

I will check out the link. But since my other user stories got closed as soon as all their subtasks were closed.  I believe similar configuration is done for all items. This particular story itself is behaving like this and 3 more. Rest got closed when all subtasks were marked resolved.

Hi @Raveesha Singh,

thanks for providing the additional information. Since there seems to be some kind of automatism configured already, your problem should indeed be related to some configuration mismatch.

Usually, either the close transition of the issues that should perform the action (in your case subtasks and linked issues - check the post function of those workflows) or the close transition of the affected issue itself (check conditions and validators of this workflow) is causing the problem.

Best regards,
Thorsten

In Jira every issue is its own entity and is functionally independent from other issues (even if they are sub tasks or linked to the story issue).

This means the story itself has to be transitioned manually to close it.

If you don't see a transition button you either doesn't have the rights to transition the story further or a workflow condition hides it from you.

With kind regards

Mario

What is the current status of your story?

What is the resolution of the story?

If it is closed but no resolution set it will still appear in the standard "open issues" filter in the issue search.

This happens if the transition to the status "resolved" doesn't have a transition screen or postfunction configured to set tge resolution of the tge story. Then theworkflow should be fixed.

story status.jpgits not getting strike out like others. status is showing resolved.

Hi @Raveesha Singh,

seems like the resolution isn't set correctly. Please check the workflow for EQAF-195 and the transition pointing to Resolved. There should be a post function setting the resolution.

Cheers,
Thorsten

@Thorsten Letschert _Decadis AG_I agree!😊

@Raveesha Singh

But there could also be a transition screen were the user has to set the resolution if storys weren't meant to be closed automatically per automation app. So check this too.

To set the resolution after you fixed the workflow it is the easiest if you transition the story back in the previous status and transition it again to "Resolved". This tests  the fix and if everything is correct it also sets the resolution whick is the condition for the strike through in the UI.

Kind regards and don't forget to accept one of Thorsten or mine answers.
