Hi, 

I want to set up an approver in Jira software. Can I do it without getting any plugins?

A subtask or epic would have an approver task where they get notified. Would that be possible?

Hello Nadia,

If you think on approval step on workflow, it's still not possible for Jira Software.

You can add maybe user picker CF called "Approvers" and add user/s to that field while transitioning to the Approval status.

Add "Approve" and "Decline" transitions from that status and set conditions that user must be in that custom field to be able to transition the issue (to approve or decline).
