Hello,
We would like to automate certain fields on a jira issue based on the commits and pr. For an example we would like to update component field(repo name) on the jira ticket based on the commit/pr being made to a repo. Can you guide us how can we can do that?
Welcome to the community. Can you provide more details on your ask? (Example - how are you currently integrate your source repos apps (Bitbucket, Github etc..) with your Jira)
Once your updates are received, we will be able to better assist you with your ask.

Hello Joseph,
We are currently integrating Github with our jira just for branch creation, commits and PR only. We want to update few more fields on our ticket through the commits.

For your integration, are you using the out of the box DVCS configuration setup? If so, I believe you are limited to what you can do with issue updates via smart commits (as described in the following article - https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/process-issues-with-smart-commits/)
However, you should be able to utilize Automation for Jira to build out automation rules triggered by DevOps event to conduct edit action against your issues.-
Hope this helps.
Best, Joseph
