Automatic Time tracking

Hajar Shalaby July 3, 2024

I need an automated time log tracking tool or native jira for tracking, which starts when the developer working on the task and stops tracking after the working day ends to track the actual time spend on the task

Hi @Hajar Shalaby 👋

You can track the actual time spend on the task with Time in Status, which starts when the developer working on the task and stops tracking after the working day ends.

1. The Assignee time report will notify you of how much time each Assignee spent on each task.

2. With the Pivot table view, you can create a custom report. Group tasks and see how much time they spent in the status while they were assigned to a specific Assignee.

3. For Scrum team we are also offering Sprint Report feature. With the Workload section you can check whether the work is proportionally distributed in the team.

Hover your mouse over the line of a specific assignee and you will see his work.

Add-on has a 30-day free trial version, free up to 10 users and developed by my SaaSJet team.

Hope it helps 😌

Hi @Hajar Shalaby

Welcome to the community !!

If you would be interested in a mktplace app, you can try out .

Time in Status Reports

The "Time with Assignee" report can help determine how much time your developer is taking per ticket. The report shows how much time the ticket was assigned to your developer. And you can also set your working calendar to exclude non working hours and weekends.

Do give it a try.

Hi @Amay Purohit_RVS
Thanks for sharing this tool I'm using it right now.. but I'm trying to figure out, How it calculates the spend time on a task as I don't see a time tracker inside the task that can start or pouse to calculate the time.
i.e "From where the report got the data to fill this table"

Hi @Hajar Shalaby

Thanks for trying out the add-on.

The app calculates the total time the issue has been assigned to a resource. For eg

1. Issue 1 is assigned to User 1 on Monday for development at 9 am

2. Issue 1 is reassigned to User 2 on Wed for testing at 6 pm

3. Issue 1 is reassigned to User 3 on Thu for prod deployment at 6 pm

3. You have set the working calendar in the app as Mon to Fri, 9 am to 6 pm. i.e 5 days a week and 9 hrs a day.

4. The app will automatically calculate and show the time as User 1 -> 27 hrs, User 2 -> 9 hrs

If in the above scenario, Issue 1 is assigned back to User 1 for any bug fixes/ changes etc, then that time will also get added to User 1's total time

I hope this helps. Pls do let me know for any further queries.

Thanks

Hi @Hajar Shalaby

Welcome to the community!

You might consider using time-tracking apps. Some of them have automatic time tracking. I can recommend our Clockwork Automated Time Tracking & Timesheets Pro or a Free app that has an automatic time-tracking feature.

When automated timers are enabled, Clockwork will log the time for an assignee when an issue is in an active status. It also considers users working hours to make sure that the logged time is accurate.

Automatic timers ensure that all work is logged without users having to take any actions.

It might fit well in your case. If you have any questions, let me know.

Cheers!

Hi @Gracjan Wesołowski _HeroCoders_ thanks for the recommendation.
I want to ask something, If I set the working hours from 10 to 6 PM, will the automatic timer stop at 6 and start counting the next day at 10?
our how it works, please

Hello @Hajar Shalaby ,

Welcome to the community!

In order to measure and track your developers performance I would recommend using a third-party app, as there is no built-in solution in JIRA for this. My recommendation is Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira app, the oldest and leading Time in Status app in Atlassian Marketplace, which is built by my team at OBSS. It is available for both Jira Cloud, and Data Center.

Timepiece mainly allows you to see how much time each issue spent on each status and on each assignee/group/teamTimepiece offers Assignee Duration per Status report  which shows how much time each assignee spent on each Status.

Report Types Assignee Duration per Status.png

For this report, if you need you can also combine the time for multiple statuses to obtain metrics according to your specifications, such as Cycle Time, Lead Time, Resolve Time etc. Also, you can calculate averages and sums of those durations grouped by the issue fields you select. All these options can provide both calculated data tables and charts.

The application also offers custom calendar support. Calendars can be configured based on your working hours, excluding holidays and non-working hours (even lunch breaks) from the calculation. Timepiece reports can be generated based on your custom calendars.

Visit Timepiece - Time in Status for Jira to explore how our JIRA add-on can revolutionize your metrics measurement process. Enjoy a 30-day free trial to experience the full range of features.

If you wish, you can also schedule a live demo. We will provide a comprehensive overview of the application and address any inquiries you may have.

Hope it helps,

Gizem

Hi @Hajar Shalaby

Welcome to the community.

You could look at any time tracking app on the marketplace. There are too many to list them all.

Depending on other functions you might require based on time tracking, make your choice or try differents ones as a trail.

They almost all offer auto time tracking based on workflow status.
