We always used to change the assignee's on the issue based on the Status.
I want all my previous assignee's to be added as Watchers.
I have Automation for JIRA and MISC workflow addons

Ditto here for Service Desk.
I have implemented a automation rule to add users to a custom user pick list field and then on transition, copy that customer field to watcher. This solves the issue created watcher list, but it does not solve how to add watchers based on when an issue is edited to meet certain criteria.
