Kanban projects have, by default, Backlog, Selected for Development, In Progress and Done statuses. If I'm using a Kanban board, and I drag an issue from Backlog to Selected for Development, the issue status automatically changes from Backlog to Selected for Development.
Can I make that happen in a Scrum project? That is, if I drag an item from the Backlog into a Sprint, can I automatically have the status update to Selected for Development?
I understand Selected for Development is a Kanban concept in Jira, but I'm testing running our work from one project using both Kanban and Scrum (boards). It'd work much much better if that automatic status change would apply when picking issues for a sprint.
Are you working with a Company Managed project or a Team Managed project?
What problem are you trying to solve by having the status change when an issue is added to a sprint? And does it make a difference to you if the sprint has already been started?
By adding an issue to a sprint, that inherently means it has been selected for development as part of that sprint, when that sprint is active (now or in the future when the sprint is started). Why do you need to have that as a status also?
Hi Trudy
Company managed. Wanted to change the status from Backlog to Selected for Development for consistency with Kanban work.
As it turns out, it's relatively easy to do with automation.

How did you sort this out with the automation tool?
I have a Scrum board and would like the status to change to Selected for Development when an item from Backlog is dragged into a sprint.
Thanks

Oh gosh @[deleted] sorry that was in a test site that I'm pretty sure I've since deleted. Will check if I can find it / remember.

Hi @Steven Kent
Interesting observation!
Status transitions are allowed on Boards ( both Kanban & Sprint)
Whereas the Scrum project backlog view is a special VIEW, where the Scrum Master/Product Owner can plan and add issues from backlog to a new Sprint.
Cheers
Ajay
