Automation: New issue is created but not linked (in some projects, but works in other)

Hi team!

I have a strange issue I can't find my way around.

I have an automation that when triggered creates a specific issue type and linking it to the trigger issue.

This works just as expected in one project, but not in the other. I've checked the settings for the projects, permissions, etc. but all looks identical.

The issue is created as expected but just not linked..?

Hi @Andreas Sundvall

Are these the same type of project: team-managed vs company-managed, software vs work management, etc.?

I have seen weird symptoms with issue create and linking in rules.  The REST API is documented as supporting adding zero-or-one link at the time of creation, and I hypothesize rules instead do that in two steps: create and then link.  Perhaps this is a timing problem.

For your usage scenario, perhaps use a workaround to take control of the timing:

  • action: issue create (without adding the link)
  • branch: to most recently created issue
    • action: link issues

Kind regards,
Bill

Yes, they are two identical "Company-managed software" projects...which is why I can't find the reason to it.

I will start by breaking up the automation to see if that works.

Will update once tested!
