[Automation] When updating a field on one of the Parent tasks, updated fields for epic+stories too

So in my advanced roadmap,

I have a hierarchy of:

Large Initiative > Initiative > Epic > Story > Sub-tasks

If I update one of the fields in "Initiative", I want the update to be reflected in Epic, Story, and all the sub-tasks.

The fields have a unique value, an ID number if you will.

I tried the following and it didn't work:

Thanks!

@Richard Canlas I Remember Thanks!!

So when I had answered the link I had defined from Initiative to Epic as "relates to".

May I know in your instance what's the link you have defined?

What's the link I defined in the automation? None because the options on the drop down for link types does not contain a "child of" Parent (which is our Initiative). Is there a particular one I should choose? @Pramodh M

I posted the wrong screen shot before. This is the correct one. If I try to search for "Linked Issues" in Field drop down, it cannot be found @Pramodh M

Hi @Richard Canlas

Below is the Automation Rule

I have considered from Initiative you have relates to link to Epic

Let me know if this works

@Pramodh M For the "If:matches" how did you get "Linked issues present Types: relates to"? What is the drop down selection because I can't find that

Here is an example of the structure

In the drop down for "Field" in the issue field conditions, "Linked Issues" field doesn't pop up as an option. Is that what you used in your example?

Hi @Richard Canlas

May I know which type of project you are using?

It seems like you are using team-managed project, if you provide me the exact template, I would replicate the same in my environment and test it out.

Thanks,
Pramodh

A team managed project for the POR board where the "Create issue" trigger is happening

and a company managed project for the PMP board where I want to match the field from

Hmm, trying to figure out the best way to present a template to you @Pramodh M

Hi @Richard Canlas

I'm a bit confused no how hierarchy is here

Will you please let me know by adding if/else block whether it works?

Thanks

Hierarchy is

Initiative has a child issue that is an Epic

and the Stories are tied to the Epics by "Epic Link"

@Pramodh M

The If condition with Linked Issues does not seem to work since the Initiative is a parent to Epic

@Richard Canlas

So Initiative is parent to Epic. Got it.

And how are Epic and Story issues are linked?

This is how the epics and story issues are linked:

All things are clear.

So how have we defined Initiative as the parent of Epic?

I see from the above screenshot, there is Parent Link Option, is this it?

Correct, the Initiative is the parent of Epic by way of Parent Link @Pramodh M

@Richard Canlas

And may I know how to create an Issue that has the hierarchy above Epic?

So changes to field values in Initiative is what I want to carry over to all its Epics and Stories

@Pramodh M

Initiatives (hierarchy above Epic) are created by way of Create Issue. Create Issue then automatically creates the Epics and Stories beneath it using the automation you helped me in this link:
