Awaiting approval subtasks are not displayed in Kanban

Fabien GIQUIAUD September 27, 2021

Hello everyone,

I'm facing a strange issue or bad configuration on a Kanban board. Subtasks with "awaiting approval status" are not displayed automatically in the column "Awaiting approval".

The only way I found to make them appear is to edit them (by adding a comment for example).

An example in the screenshot below. Nothing in the "Awaiting approval" column. While the main ticket is "In progress" (left) and in the detail of the ticket we can see the subtask is on "awaiting approval" (right)

If anyone has an idea... Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!2021-09-27_15h00_43.png

Are you saying that if you edit one of the sub tasks that is not displaying on the kanban board then it suddenly appears? Add a comment to an issue and having it suddenly appear really makes no sense. I could understand if the issue never showed up.

Hello Jack, thanks for the reply.

In fact, it is a colleague who tells me that by adding a comment / changing the description or the assignee make it appears.

By the way, I have another question that might help or be related to the problem. The approval column shows me:

AWAITING APPROVAL
5 OF 20

Where are the other 15?

P.S: The portal filters catch the subtask. So they are here but not displayed.

what does your board filter look like? I definitely would attempt to test out what others are telling you rather than assume what they're telling you is accurate. Create an issue with some tasks and try transitioning it into the awaiting approval subtasks are not displayed.

I tried to do some tests on the project. And obviously, for me or when the colleague does it in live, it works.

But she gave me some examples of subtask that don't appear, and I really don't see why. I compared them with subtaks that do appear and I don't see any difference.

Maybe it is related to the Worflow or the status? For example (sreenshot below), in a subtask that does not appear. It is in "Awaiting Approval" status. But if I click again on "Awaiting Approval" next to "backlog", it appears in the list.

I find it interesting that the “awaiting approval” button shows on the screen if you are already in that status. Can you investigate your workflow transitions an see if you have different “awaiting approval” transitions?

Hello Jack,

I'm sorry for this very late reply, I was off for a moment. I found the solution and I share it just for information.

In the Kanban board configuration, there is an option called "Hide completed issues older than". You can select 1, 2, 4 weeks or show all.

For example, if a ticket has not been updated/edited for 2 weeks, it is hidden. That's why as soon as you make a modification, the ticket reappears.

If I select "show all", all my ticket on status waiting for approval finally appears!!

Anyway, thanks for the help
