I'd like to have the part numbers selectable by part number but I don't know how to import an excel file of all the part numbers. The only way I can do it is to mannually type in one by one

@Anthony Amirfar , ScriptRunner has a Bulk Import Custom Field Values utility included in their app. If you don't already have ScriptRunner, download the trial and check out this utility. It's a super useful app.

@Peter DeWitt Thank you for your response. For some context, we are using a JIRA ticketing system company wide to organize tasks of rework, redesign, and supplier rework. I want to add a custom field with a required entry upon opening a ticket, this field (part number) will have 5000 or so values.

I have downloaded the script runner app but I cannot connect the dots.

Damn, 5000 might be a bit much. Especially when trying to find entry 3876. :)

With that many objects, you want to use something a bit more beefy.

I have used Elements Connect in the past to connect a field to a .csv. Here is the specifics from there support site: https://doc.elements-apps.com/elements-connect/latest/administration-guide/configuration/datasources-configuration/configure-a-file-datasource

You could also look at Insight (soon to be Assets) from Atlassian. It is a CMDB but would allow you to load in all of your part number and then access them through an Insight connect field. https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/service-management/features/asset-and-configuration-management

Both of these two will allow you use autocomplete in the pick-list making it much easier to find items.

These aren't the only solutions but I have and do use both successfully.
