Can I display same card in two columns at the same time?

Hansi test February 2, 2020

Hi all,

I am using a scrum board for my project. Board columns of the said board are as below

1. ToDo

2. Initial Development

3. Initial QA

4. Issue fixing

5. Issue verification

6. BA verification

7. Ready to ship

As per our company process, when a certain item is in "Initial QA" round, same item will be taken by the relevant BA for BA verification. In this case, I need to reflect a single ticket (let's say RI-157) under both "Initial QA" column and "BA Verification" column in the same time. Is there a way to do this?

Cheers,

Hansi

Hello @Hansi test  - Simple answer is No, a card cannot be in two columns as the same time.

Longer answer is that cards are mapped to columns on a board based on the Status the issue is currently attached to. An issue is only linked to a single status and therefore, can only be in one column.

Philosophically, it sounds the card is not really in Initial QA unless it has passed through BA Verification. If that's the case, then the card should indeed only be in one column.

However, if both groups are working on the card at the same time, that is the QA group and BA group are both working on the issue without initially needing feedback from each other, then there is a dilemma.

So, another option would be to add a custom field that shows a value of BA Initial Verification or something like that. You could show that value for the card on the board so even though it is in Initial QA, it could have a value for BA (but still be in the single column)..

Hi @John Funk . Thanks a lot for your option related to adding a custom field and hope it will fulfill my requirement. Thanks again :)

Hi @Hansi test

The workflow status is a state diagram. An Issue is in a specific state at any given point. In your case you will have two statuses in the workflow and you can map them to separate columns on your board. So the issue will appear in one only one column at any given time.
