Hi, I would like to upload and manage a resource plan from Jira. Is this possible, and how do I go about it, please?
Welcome to the community !!
If you would like to try a mktplace app for tracking resource workload and capacity planning, take a look at
The app offers:
1. Resource Tracking and Allocation : The app allows you to monitor and track various resources by adding them as part of a template, and their work allocation across multiple projects / sprints.
2. Real-time Visualization: Provides intuitive charts, graphs to visualize resource utilization and capacity levels in real-time.
3. Full Sprint / Project Fix version Capacity and Monitoring
Hi @Jasmine Fotso ,
Welcome to Atlassian Community!
Jira, with its native capabilities, offers limited resource management through Advanced Roadmaps. However, your teams can only use the same velocity/time estimate format (story points or hours), and you have to deal with limited individual resource views.
In such a case, it would be worth checking out the offers of third-party apps within the Atlassian Marketplace, such as the one offered by our team at SolDevelo, called Team Planner – Resource Planning and Capacity Planning.
With Team Planner, you gain a clear, timeline-based view of your team’s work — showing exactly who is working on what, and for how long. This makes it easy for teams to stay aligned, while project planners can instantly see available capacity and confidently adjust plans as needed.
The plans can be easily edited with the ability to drag-and-drop all available work items, add non-working days, and additional users.
Of course, you are not limited to a single plan, as you can create and browse from a selection of multiple plans in your Jira instance, with the addition of setting up a suitable start and end date of working on a plan, and estimate their progress via both Story Points and the Original Estimate.
If you are interested in this solution, we kindly invite you to check it out!
Best regards,
Tomasz

Yes, it is possible to manage a resource plan within Jira, although the platform's native capabilities are best suited for basic task allocation. For comprehensive resource management, including capacity planning and workload balancing, utilizing an application from the Atlassian Marketplace is the recommended approach.
One of the app for resource management — Planyway for Jira.
Directly uploading a pre-existing resource plan file, such as one from Excel or a CSV, is not a standard feature in most Jira resource planning applications. Instead, these tools typically leverage your existing Jira data to build and visualize a resource plan.
Here are the common approaches to creating and managing your resource plan within Jira:
1. Creating a Plan from Existing Jira Issues:
The primary method for building a resource plan in a Jira app is to use the issues (tasks, stories, epics) already present in your projects. This approach ensures that your resource plan is directly linked to the actual work being tracked in Jira.
2. Manual Data Export and Manipulation (The Manual Approach):
If you need to work with your resource data in a spreadsheet format, you can export your Jira issues to a CSV file. This allows you to perform manual resource planning and analysis in a program like Excel. However, this method is disconnected from Jira in real-time and requires manual updates.
For a seamless and integrated resource planning experience within Jira, Planyway is an excellent and intuitive choice. It offers a comprehensive suite of features to visualize and manage your team's workload effectively.
