I have the backlog activated on the Kanban board. Can the Scrum board and Kanban board share the same backlog?
Yes, they both work from a board filter, which selects a list of issues that the board draws in. If you use the same filter for both boards, and you set up the boards to understand backlog, in progress and done in the same way, then you'll get a consistent backlog (and the rest) across both of them.
It is not uncommon to see people using one scrum board and then many kanban boards looking at the same backlog, or even sub-sets of the backlog. I would try to avoid having more than one scrum board though, it can get messy.
Okay, I think I got it working but I'm a bit confused.
I created a Backlog Status and changed the workflow so created issues are given an open status of Backlog
I mapped the Backlog Status to Backlog on the Kanban board and I then mapped the Open Status to the To Do column. Users move issues from the Backlog to the Open status and so on. Works fine.
However, on the Scrum board it won't show any issue with the Backlog status unless I map the Backlog status to one of the Sprint columns. That seems counter intuitive. How should I handle this?
