Can a project role have access to only certain issues in a project?

My team has set up a Project Role called "Contractor," which we use for an outside contractor to access a single project.  Today, a sub-team leader asked if they could have a contractor access only part of a project (i.e. have a mechanical contractor not see firmware-related issues).  Is that possible?
