Can deleting epics on one project erase tasks that have been moved to another?

I created a new Jira project and started moving tasks there to start with a cleaner enviroment.

After moving the tasks it seemed all ok, everthing was showing up correctly. I then proceeded to delete the empty epics in the first project and seconds later the tasks started disappearing from the second one (all except the one "Done"). If I click on links I had in other documents they simply shot the lock picture saying "You don't have access to this issue".

So ye, now wondering if this is part of the "that's why you never want to delete anything on Jira" or did I do something else wrong? And of course.. any chance to recover those Jiras?

Heya Matteo!

Yeah so unfortunately from my understanding, there is no way to recover issues once deleted, so I always enforce that to be restricted to only jira admins! But if the epics did not import, that's why there maybe broken links. Alongside this, check on the link to the other project to see if you have the permission "view projects" as that's perhaps why you are not able to access the issue!

I hope this helps! :)

Hello Ashley!

Thank you for your reply. And ye, will try to dig a little further that way as well.

And ye, the Epics I intentionally did not move to the new project. But maybe the tasks somehow kept their link towards them "in the background" and got corrupted after the epic got deleted.

Bit weird... but luckily I noticed the issue after only deleting a few!

So ye, one more lesson learned "the hard way". ^^'

Heya Matteo!

Ah no worries at all! And yeah I'd assume that the tasks kept their link but ah well at least you only deleted a few! :D If you ever want to move issues or delete issues, I'd recommened just going on a saved filter of the issues you want to keep / move and export them as a CSV just incase you want to back up and then you can use the filter to bulk move them into the other project! :D

But yeah, I'm glad I was able to point you towards the right way! :D Have a great weekend!!

Kind Regards,

Ashley Hudson
