Hello,

I think I've tried all the solution available here and more.

My problem: I have an active sprint that is in weird state > I can't complete it.

Context:I'm Administrator of the project containing a story assigned to the sprint, the administrator role is of course assigned to the "Manage sprint" permission and I still have this annoying message

"You need the Manage sprints permission to start or complete this sprint"

What can explain that ? How am I supposed to kill forever this buggy sprint ?

Thanks in advance

Hello @Etienne Gautier

Sorry to see you are facing a problem to complete/delete a Sprint.

Please, allow me to provide you with some concepts and ask some questions so we can better troubleshoot the problem and confirm we are on the same page:

As you may know, a board/Sprint can be configured with issues from multiple projects. To complete a Sprint in a board, you must have the Schedule issues and Manage Sprints permissions to all the projects returned in the board filter and in the Sprint, not only the project where the board is allocated.

That being said, please follow the steps below to properly troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Navigate to your board > ... > Board Settings > General
  2. You can check the projects returned for your board in the "Projects in board" section:
    Screen Shot 2020-01-30 at 17.14.10.png
  3. If your board filter is returning issues from multiple projects, make sure you have the manage Sprint and Schedule Issues permissions in each of the projects.
  4. To confirm if your Sprint have issues from multiple projects, navigate to your issue navigator and use a JQL query to search all the issues in that Sprint, checking if there are issues from multiple projects and confirm if you have the manage Sprint and Schedule Issues permissions on them:
    Sprint = "xyz"
  5. Once you confirm that, try to restart your browser and clear its cache, also checking if the problem keeps happening in incognito mode or using a different browser
  6. P.S: If the "Projects in board" section display that the board filter is too complex and it is not able to identify what projects are returned in the board, the only way to manage your Sprints would be by:
    1. Simplify your board filter
    2. Add the Schedule issues and Manage Sprints permissions to all the projects in your site

If the steps above didn't work for you, please provide us with the results of each step above.

Thanks.

I also did the filter for sprint = xyz but it didn't return anything.

I don't understand why but "somewhere" there was a reference between this sprint and a project we don't really use for which I didn't have the rights.

I added the rights to that old/dead project and I could close it.

Thanks for your answer, it's now solved :)

Hey @Petter Gonçalves We have renamed one of the projects to a new name, I have added a user with all the rights needed and Jira still says you need to have rights to all the projects to complete the Sprint while I'm sure this is designed with just a single project and the query is pretty simple too.

Can you help?

Hi there!

PS- I have all the right permissions, as I have done this many times, and I just messed up on the sequence of actions, by beginning a new sprint (clicking start sprint) on the same project before closing the current one. This is not a caching/permission issue.

I forgot to complete my sprint, before starting a new one and now the 'complete sprint' button is gone, and it has a shadow, with the hover stating 'you can only complete 1 sprint at a time'

I adjusted the swim lanes query to only show one sprint, but since I started the other, it displays under 'everything else'

What can I do to complete my sprint now, so that the dialog box can appear for everything to go over to the 'new' sprint.

If I go to reports, and pick a chart like the velocity chart, the sprint I forgot to close in the right sequence, doesn't show up, so it seems to still be in an open state, but I can't seem to complete it.

I would really appreciate the help

Thanks
