Can't customize list view

maela.pascullo February 12, 2024

Hi,

I am struggling while trying to customize the "List" view. For some reason, my changes are not saved and, anytime I open the app, I have to set the fields up again.

I would like to customize the list so that every time I log in the "hide done items" view option is already activated.

In addition, I would like to "pin" certain fields (such as start date, assignee, etc.) and "unpin" other ones that appear by default (like reporter, labels, etc.).

I was looking for solutions on the internet and some people mentioned that it is possible to customize it through the "Issues Layout" option in the sidebar of the project settings, but I don't have that option (see image).

Did someone experience the same issues?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the community @maela.pascullo !

The project that you are having is the team-managed project. Instead of the issue layout that you have on the company-managed project, you would need to select Issue types, which will actually open the issue layout for every issue type.

Hi @Nikola Perisic thanks a lot for your prompt response!

I've been trying to customize it as you suggested, but still appear fields that I already deleted from the issue types, like the reporter, date created, or label. Same happens with the "hide done items" option, I have to select it every time I log in.

Can it be related to my company's restrictions on the app for security reasons?

Even though if you have removed the fields from the issue layouts, you can return then back by re-adding them to the layout.

Also, are you using Scrum or Kanban?

Hi @maela.pascullo

It's Mary from Planyway for Jira

Customizing the List view to automatically hide done items and to pin certain fields while unpinning others is a useful way to streamline your workflow. Here's a step-by-step guide to address your concerns:

1. Automatically Hiding Done Items

  • Board Filters: For Agile boards (Scrum/Kanban), you can achieve this by adjusting the board's filter query to exclude done items. Go to your board's settings, find the Filter section, and modify the JQL (Jira Query Language) to exclude issues in done statuses.
  • Dashboard Gadgets: Another approach is to use dashboard gadgets like the Filter Results gadget, where you can specify a filter that excludes done items and save this as your default dashboard view.

3. Pinning and Unpinning Fields

  • Issue Layout Customization: If you're on Jira Cloud and the "Issue Layout" option isn't visible, it might be due to the project type or your permissions. Normally, for next-gen projects, you can customize the issue view by going to Project settings > Issue layout. Here, you can pin and unpin fields as desired for the issue view.
  • Board Card Layouts: For board views, you can customize what fields appear on cards via Board settings > Card layout. This allows you to add up to three fields to be displayed on the board's cards, which might help in prioritizing information at a glance.

Troubleshooting Missing "Issues Layout" Option

  • Project Type: Ensure you're working in a next-gen project (for Jira Cloud) as some customization features are unique to them.
  • Permissions: Confirm that you're either a project admin or have been granted the necessary permissions to access layout settings.
  • Contact Admin: If you're missing options that should be there, reach out to your Jira administrator. There might be restrictions in place or features that need to be enabled at a higher level.

Additional Steps

  • Clear Browser Cache: Sometimes, browser caching issues can cause settings not to be saved properly. Try clearing your browser cache or using a different browser to see if the issue persists.
