Can't see Epic name - Classic Project Sprint - View, edit or create

Mahesh Kannan Thangavelu May 2, 2020

Hi there,

I am new to Jira. Just setting up for our first sprint on Jira. I am unable to see Epic on my Tasks lists in any type of issue. Tried some playing around but no luck. So any advise is appreciated.

Hello @Mahesh Kannan Thangavelu

Thank you for reaching out.

The Epic name field is a required and exclusive field for Epic issue types. It is basically used to define the Epic name, so it should not be applied to other issue types.

I see in your screenshot that you are displaying a Story issue type, where it's expected to not display the Epic name field. Can you confirm if that field is displaying for your Epic issue types?

Additional to that, could you please let us know why are you trying to display the Epic name in Stories?

If you want to have a field in your stories to display their related Epics, you can use the Epic Link field instead.

You can have more details about the information mentioned above in the link below:

Epic Name vs Epic Link

Aha! Spot on! Thanks a lot Petter! I got confused between Epic name and Epic link. I was really looking for Epic Link. That really helped. Much appreciated.
