Can we export specific issue columns?

If I go to Issues, I can apply filters, then click "Export issues" and choose the file format...

Screenshot 2024-02-14 212328.png

That's fine if I want to export all columns, but I generally don't. I usually want to do this when I need to supply a list of outstanding issues to the stakeholders, and all I want in the list are the issue Id, summary, parent and fix version.

Is it possible to restrict the columns exported? At the moment, I'm wasting a lot of time chopping columns out of the exported file.

Thanks

Hi @Avrohom Yisroel Silver

If you save your filter with a name, that allows also saving the selected fields, field order, and sort order results.  When you export, you may then choose to only export the filter fields.

https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/save-your-search-as-a-filter/

Kind regards,
Bill

@Bill Sheboy Thanks for the reply. How do I select fields? As far as I can see, filters only allow you to choose which issues are included in the results.

Thanks again.

On the right side of the page, there is a Columns dropdown list to add / remove fields.

As you are a system admin, it will initially show "My Defaults" and "System".  (Be careful not to change the System ones unless you mean to do so :^)

Use "My Defaults" to initially select the fields.  After you save your filter with a name, you will then see "Filter" as an option to change the columns.

@Bill Sheboy I can't see a Columns dropdown, am I looking in the wrong place? I clicked Filters -> View all issues and see the following...

Where is the Columns dropdown?

Thanks

On the right side, first switch from Detail to List view by selecting the icon with the down arrow next to it.  Then the Columns option is available.

Hi @Avrohom Yisroel Silver

thanks for your question. What Jira view do you use to export these issues?

If you go to Filters > View all issues  and enter you search query there, you should be able to modify the columns under "my defaults" which is accessible in the export menu:

@Kai Becker Thanks for the reply, but I'm not clear what you mean. If i go to Filters > View all issues, I get to the same place as if I click the Issues link in the left column. That's where I was when I took the screenshot.

Please can you clarify what you meant by "enter you search query there" as I'm not sure what you mean. I can use the controls to filter the results, but this only limits which issues are shown, it doesn't affect the columns.

Thanks again.

@Avrohom Yisroel Silver I can confirm, that on my cloud site they are different. When using your way via the issues button you will get the new search experience:

When using my option I do get the old search experience with different entries in the export dropdown which you can see on my first post:

@Kai Becker Whichever search experience you get, doesn't that only allow you to filter? I've not delved into JQL yet, but as far as I can see, it doesn't support column choosing.

Could be I've not found the docs for that yet, but all I saw was filtering.

Please could you clarify. Thanks again

@Avrohom Yisroel Silver as mentioned in my first post, when using the link https://<your-site>.atlassian.net/issues/ the search field will be prefilled with JQL, but you should be able to use the button "Switch to basic" to get the dropdowns for filtering:

Using this view, you should be able to select "Export CSV (my defaults)" with your selection of columns:
