Cannot view the "JIRA System Administrators" permission

Jira Server 7.8, cannot view the "JIRA System Administrators" permission, only "JIRA Administrators". Also cannot change many system settings like SMTP and backup. Please advise...

You are not in the group that defines the system adminstrators.  You need to be added to that group. 

If you're using the internal directory to provide your users, then it needs to be one of the existing admins adding you.

I'm the user who set up the system and I'm in the group jira-administrators. Is there a way that this group could have been deleted, and if yes, how can I recreate/restore it?

Depends on your user directory.  If it is internal, then it's not possible to delete the last groups that have been granted system and/or Jira admin, it forces you to keep them, and have at least one person in them.  It is possible to remove the groups with external directories of course.

You obviously still have Jira admin, but to lose system admin rights means you are no longer in a group that has system admin.  You will need to talk to whoever still has it in order to work out what groups have that, and get them to add it back to your account.

It looks like one of the admin users had removed me from this group by mistake Had to run some SQL queries on the command line to view which group still had the "jira-system-administrator" permissions.
