Hello,
My project issue types are at the moment:
P.s: Parent issues and sub-issues have different workflows.
I've been trying to create an automation that triggers whenever the issue type from a parent issue is updated to a sub-level issue (see the screenshot below).
Problem: Jira doesn't trigger when I update the issue type from a Parent-issue to a Sub-issue. It only catches updates from issues of the same level, e.g (from User Story to Defect; or Sub-task to Bug; but never from Defect to Bug).
Does anyone know why this is happening and how I could solve this issue?
I've seen many similar posts but haven't found any that could solve it. Thank you all.
Hello @Wesley Maffazzolli
How exactly are you changing the issue type from Parent-issue to Sub-task? Are you using the Convert To Subtask option for the parent issue?
If so, so far I have not been able to get a working solution either.
I found an old change request about this that has "timed out" and been closed.
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-22432
I haven't found any open change requests about this.
An administrator for your Jira system could reach out directly to Atlassian Support to find out if there is one (that I'm not finding) or ask to have a change request opened for this. If you do, please share with us the link to the found/new change request.
There was this suggestion closed as Won't do - AUT-463 - Trigger and action for converting issue to sub-task and vice versa in an automation rule then this as well - AUT-1960
unfortunate.

Answer: I've directly clicked on the issue type icon I want to change (see the screenshot below - in that example I'm trying to capture the event of a Defect becoming a Bug).
I'll also talk with my Jira Admin and show the last steps you mentioned. I let you know. Thanks for your support and attention.

Okay, the method you indicated does invoke the Convert to Sub-task process when you select Sub-task. That is the process that there doesn't seem to be any automation options available to catch.
