Changing to existing Workflow

VICKIE WOODS February 16, 2021

How can I change a workflow on an existing item type in an existing project to an existing workflow?

Hi Vickie,

Go to Settings > Issues > Workflow Schemes

Find the scheme you want to modify and click on Edit

There you can modify which workflow the Issue Type is attached to.

and if you are informed that you can't edit the active workflow (known limitations), then copy the workflow and go to admin > workflows > inactive and edit the copy. Once done go back to the project > project settings > workflows and Add workflow > existing workflow find your edited workflow and associate to the desired issuetypes.

Thanks, but won't this update the workflow on every project that is using that issue/workflow scheme combo? I only want to change the workflow for one project to a different, existing workflow.

Also, following the steps above only lets me modify the workflow itself (adding/removing status values, etc.) it doesn't let me disassociate the workflow from the item (story).

Thanks!

Yes, it will. You will need to make a copy of the Workflow and make changes to the copy (it will be inactive).

Then create a new Workflow Scheme and attach the new inactive workflow to the new scheme.

Then switch the Workflow Scheme on the project with the new Workflow Scheme

I'm trying to update to an existing workflow. This project will integrate with Jama through Tasktop. Because of this, we need to use an exiting workflow. Can we only switch to a new Workflow? I know I've changed to an existing Workflow before.

The problem is that you don't want to update any projects that the workflow is shared with.

So you can copy the existing one, create a new scheme, attached the copied workflow to the new scheme and then attach the new workflow scheme to the projects that you don't want to change.

Then you can safely update your existing workflow.

Let's say it's ok to change the workflow on all of the projects....how can I do this?

When I follow Go to Settings > Issues > Workflow Schemes, I only have the option to modify the current workflow. I'm sorry for all of the questions, I'm just not able to do what I need to do to make the interface work.

Thanks!

If you can change the shared workflow and not care that it affects all of the projects it is linked to, then go to Settings > Issues > Workflows

Search for the workflow, make your changes and publish it.

The Workflow needed already exists. If it's not possible to change to that existing Workflow, I can change the Workflow in question to duplicate the one we need. Can you confirm this?
