Child stories of Epics not showing on Classic Project Roadmap Timeline

Maegan Womack April 28, 2021

Hello,

I am having issues (possibly user issues :) ) with Classic JIRA Project Roadmap.  When i first added the roadmap to projects (months ago), it was showing the planned work in the timeline, based on the sprint the stories were planned in.  However, now it seems it is no longer showing the planned issues at all.

Mostly certain none of our projects have over 3000 issues (we do not use sub-tasks).All issues are linked to the epic. I've disabled and enabled the Roadmap feature.

Thanks for any help or guidance!

Check the Configuration for the Plan, specifically under Source Data > Exclusion Rules. By default, I think issues older than 30 days are quietly excluded from the plan. We change that setting to 365 for every new Plan we spin up.

Review the other exclusions that might be set here. For example, you can exclude all issues which are "Done", which can cause them not to show on the plan (maybe that's what you want, maybe it isn't).

Also check under Source Data > Removed Issues. Anyone with Plan Editing privs can "remove" arbitrary issues from the plan. The issues are still in Jira, they're just excluded from showing in the plan. They will be listed here, and can be put back into the plan (check the box and click "Re-include".

If none of that pans out, re-check the Source Data > Issue Sources. It's also possible to base a plan on one or more Filters, which can exclude various issues. So editing a filter can affect what is shown on a Plan.

Hi Mykenna!  Thanks for the response.

However, this is related to the basic Roadmap feature within a JIRA Project, not the Advanced Roadmaps/JIRA Plan.  So the feature that is accessible directly in the Project - which i believe was originally for Next Gen projects but had come available for classic projects a few months ago.

I'll actually take note for the above though, for my JIRA Plan as well! :)
