Clearing Cancelled tasks with release

UKSecurityEngineering November 6, 2018

Hello! I am trying to see if I can clear out Cancelled tasks within my Kanban board with my spring releases. is there a way to do that? I have gone into settings - Issues, then resolutions. I have added cancelled into that list of resolutions.  I have also set Statuses list, with cancelled set to Category "Done".  But when I release my board/items, the cancelled items are still in the cancelled row.  These items will not be reopened, but i'd like them on record that they were cancelled.  Is there a way to do this that I am missing?

Thank you!

Hi @UKSecurityEngineering

Alexey has asked for a screenshot of what you are trying to do as the question is a little vague on the versions that you are releasing.

From the doc here issues will only be cleared from the 'Done' column once all their versions are released. The release of existing versions must be done via the 'Project Administration > Versions screen'.

So if you have a existing version set for your issues and then you create a new version when you release the done issues from your kanban board, Jira confuses it with the existing versions (that remains unreleased), so the issues still show up in your board.

So if you have a version set up already, you have to do the release via Project administration.

If this is not your issue, then we might need further information.

Hope this helps!

Are you asking about version of my release? or version of my Jira?  I set the version to a 2.1 type scenario. So 2.0 is the main release after a specific time.  2.1 is what I released to test my changes on this board.  My Jira version is currently 7.8.1 (I will update at some point in the near future).

Hi @UKSecurityEngineering

Only the issues in the right most column will be released as Alexey has mentioned earlier. So in your board configuration you must set the cancelled status to the done column as well. This should release all your done and cancelled issues.

Now the other thing you should pay attention is to the versions that the issues are mapped to. If you allot your issues to particular versions before completing them, say version 2.0. The again you will have to set a release version, say version 2.1 when you release it from the kanban board. Now you have release the version 2.1 and not 2.0. This will mean that the issues will be assigned to both the versions and since 2.0 is still unreleased the issues will keep appearing on the board.

So if you set versions ahead, you have to release them from Project Administration --> Versions screen.

Hello,

Could you attach a screenshot of what you are trying to do?

What do you need a screenshot of?  There are columns on the kanban board. I have 6 columns on this particular Board i'm trying to work with.  One is cancelled. It's next to Done.  I'd like to have the Cancelled column clear out when I press release of my kanban board. I just want to move those particular things OFF the board when I hit release for my sprint/etc.

Only issues in the most right column will be cleared
