Hi All
I have created an automation between 2 projects in my org to copy manually trigger a clone of an issue from 1 project to another only in a single direction.
let's call that Project A always copies to Project B by the manual trigger. never vice versa
project A users in past were not guided on how to use the tool correctly and ended up creating a free text field called URL to copy a link of a document.
Project B uses the inbuilt weblink feature
upon my clone/copy from Project A to B, is there a way grab the URL from the free text field and create a weblink in the newly created item?
would there be a way through the automation or via a script that could be run to do this without manual copying over?
Hi Anthony,
My first impulse is, yes you should be able to do this. But, sorry, I am not completely following the exact scenario. Can you have an example with sample values, including a sample of what is put in the free text field and what you want it to look like in the new/cloned issue?
Hi John
thanks for reply
PROJECT A has a field with a url of the location of a specific document or reference page.
below is an example of the URL field with a sample URL from Project A
Once the manual trigger is selected to Post clone/copy from Project A to Project B, I wish to turn this URL into a web link as there is no corresponding URL field.
Below is a manual example of the process

So sorry for the long delay! And you might already have it solved. But why don't you just use a URL field in Project B instead of a text field?

@John Funk , thanks for reply
no havent solved it yet
i do not want to create a new field as my company has decided to limit additional fields created due to the scaling problems it has faced in past of X amount of fields created and many not used. plus creating a field would seem useless since the functionality is present by using the web link feature.
any help would be appreciated?

Well, if you already have a field for the URL that is a text field, then creating a new URL type field and moving the data to that field and getting rid of the existing field does not add additional fields.

thanks @John Funk
sorry i am not sure i was clear
the 2 projects are under different templates. Project B is under a new template with less fields due to previous administration creating multiple fields without much thought or became used less and less as time goes on
overtime i will be getting rid of Project A, but for the short term i want to clone items across to new Project B on demand but only use the weblink feature and not create any new fields.
the URL text field is only in Project A and not available in Project B
hopefully i have cleared that up

You can still make the field available in Project B. The point being that you can share fields and if you get rid of one field to add a new field, the the net result of new fields is 0. This is a better solution that the weblinks and will be easier to maintain.

thanks @John Funk
unfortunately, I won't be sharing or creating a new field as the functionality is inbuilt and that is the direction I am heading towards.
if its unable to be done using weblink, then I won't bother adding that part to the clone automation.
thanks for all the replies to date
