I report status up to upper management by showing % complete of epics.  Our epics are on our project schedule according to our plan.  Percent complete of an epic is defined as the number of story points accepted for stories under the epic divided by the total story points of the epic.  How do I get Jira to a show me this percentage complete, and is there a tool, view, etc. that will concisely show me the progress (%-complete) of all epics within a release?

Hi Nathan,

I'd first recommend using the Release Burndown chart. This will show the progress of versions and the completed tasks contained in them.

Secondly, you can use the Epic Burndown chart to track progress of your epics.

Steven, thanks for responding.  I have to status about 40 epics every week.   Is there a way to concisely do this? Or, am I forced to click on each individual epic from a drop down to get a complete, per epic, status of our project?

You're welcome Nathan.

Out of the box, I don't believe so.

If you have the option to install add ons, you could try Structure. You'd be able to build a report and export to Excel in the following format.

Epic 1

Story A > Done

Story B > In progress

Epic 2

Story A > Done

Story B > Done
