Confused about advanced roadmaps set up

Jeanne Collins

We have upgraded our plan to Premium so we can use Advanced Roadmaps to build boards across projects.

Currently I have a board set up that includes 6 Projects defined in Shares and included in the Filter. When I try to turn on the roadmaps feature I get the error:

Roadmaps are designed for single projects

Your roadmap isn't available because the board filter contains multiple projects. To use your roadmap, adjust the board filter to include issues from XXXX (XXXX) only. Learn more about enabling the roadmap

This error did not go away by upgrading to Premium with the Advanced Roadmaps feature. I thought the purpose of getting Advanced Roadmaps is the ability to share issues with other projects? How do I change my XXXX (XXXX) board's configuration so that I can build boards that include issues from other projects?

Hello @Jeanne Collins ! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

You don't need Advanced Roadmaps to set up boards that reference multiple projects.

But if you want to see all the issues of all of those projects, then in the Advanced Roadmap plan, set as the data source the projects you want.  You don't need to set the board as the data source.

Hope this helps!

I cannot get to the Advanced Roadmap plan to set the projects as data sources because of this error:

Roadmaps are designed for single projects

Your roadmap isn't available because the board filter contains multiple projects. To use your roadmap, adjust the board filter to include issues from XXXX (XXXX) only. Learn more about enabling the roadmap

Do i need to remove the other projects from the list of Shares and Filter first?

So now I'm more confused than ever.

I've been playing around with it and it seems even though I have Premium and Roadmaps turned on in a board's configuration, the minute I try to add another project to my filter list so I can pull from both projects issues in the same board, I lose the ability to do Roadmaps.

So how does this work? I read all over the place

"Cross-project planning is only possible in Advanced Roadmaps, which is included with Jira Software Premium and Enterprise."

How do I do cross-project planning?

Advanced Roadmaps is available on the Plans menu item at the top

From there you can create a plan where your sources are projects, boards, or JQL filters

The following will get you further into the features.

Hope this helps!

@Jeanne Collinsyour description from your third entry tells me you are not where you need to be to set up your plan. Ignore all of the warnings you are getting from the project board and the board settings page. Just go into plans as @Robert Wen_Cprime_ described and set up the plan issue sources as shown. You can use the filter for your board or use multiple projects as your data source. Advanced roadmaps is completely separate from the project itself and any boards until you update issues from the plan.

@Jeanne Collinsignore this reply for my other one. I didn't see your comment on having the Premium subscription. I believe you are confusing the project roadmap feature with the Advanced Roadmap Planning tool which is accessed per @Robert Wen_Cprime_ instructions above. You need to be on the Premium Subscription Plan to have this feature.
