Hello Atlassian Community!
Once in a while it happens that I need your advice too :)
Use-Case
We use Jira 7, Confluence 6 and Bitbucket 5. User account management is performed via Jira User Management (Confluence and BB are connected to Jira). We decided to connect the applications to Microsoft Active Directory using LDAP.
Question is
What happens to users in Bitbucket and Confluence when I connect Jira to LDAP?
I know that we need to remap all Username to AD Username for the connection to work properly, but I don't know if it is possible to connect only Jira to AD and then control access to Confluence and Bitbucket also from Jira? Or is it necessary to connect each application separately (we also plan to do this)?
Thank you
Cheers
Pavel
Hi Pavel,
We use MS LDAP for Jira authentication and use our Jira instance for Confluence authentication. We don't use Bitbucket so I can't speak to that. The link below should help.

Hi Michael,
Thank you for your respond!
If I understand correctly, then Cofluence users are authenticated via Jira (Jira is connected to LDAP). Therefore, Confluence users also enter LDAP username and password?
Thank you
Pavel

Hi Pavel,
Yup, that's correct. One of the advantages of this scheme is group membership can be managed just in Jira instead of Jira and Confluence. A disadvantage is that if your Jira instance is down, no one can login to Confluence. Nevertheless, it works well for us.
