When creating a new project, I do like to use the standard templates Atlassian provides, rather than associating a new project with existing schemes; however, we like to control what our Project Key turns out to be.
When I create a new project, I have to then go in and edit all of the names that schemes, workflows, screens, and so on to use the Project Key I want. It's a huge hassle.
Is there a better way to edit a Project Key before Jira creates all its various configuration object names?
I'm with Scot on this: I want to choose a project key that fits into a pattern. The problem with changing it once created is that some of the schemes created are named with the original project key, so they become obscure names. So then they all need to be changed too.

Thanks for the quick response! Hmm... I must be missing something.
We're on the Cloud version of Jira, new interface, and I don't think we can revert back.
This is what I see when I click "New Project" from the Projects list screen:
I don't see any option to manage the Project Key. If I choose to change the Template, I don't see there a way to do it either.
Am I missing an administration setting or something?
Thanks!

Ah OH NO! I have yet to see the new interface and Cloud is still somewhat of a mystery for me. Hopefully someone can add some more information on this.
Sorry!
