I don't understand how the blue line and blue area in the JIRA control chart are calculated. Can you give me a specific example?

I've researched but don't understand clearly so I need a specific example.

Thank you

Hi @Nguyễn Thị Hảo

I would check out...

...to help with your understanding.

---

In effect...

  • The Control Chart shows either cycle time (default) or lead time
  • Cycle time is the time spent working on an issue. What this includes for your report depends on what Columns you set as relevant
  • The blue line is showing a rolling average of this, based on 20% of the issues, and a set amount of time before/after the issues. This changes depending on number of issues, timeframe selected, etc.
    • How this is calculated is mentioned on the help page - but it's effectively an average of the cycle times
  • The blue area is the standard deviation from the average - i.e the lowest cycle time and highest cycle time which makes up the rolling average (the blue line)

Does this help?

Hi @Nguyễn Thị Hảo,

This article from Atlassian documentation might be of great help for you: View and understand the control chart.

If you prefer a Control Chart gadget instead of a report, take also a look over the one offered by our Great Gadgets app.

It is highly configurable and more flexible than the one from Jira report and offers also a Data tab with the detailed list of issues.  See also this article: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-articles/Building-a-powerful-Kanban-dashboard-in-Jira-with-Great-Gadgets/ba-p/1664331

Hope this helps.

Thank you,
