Copy Parent Link field value to Epic Link in the same issue

Sandhya Muthukumar January 17, 2024

I need to copy the Parent Link field value to Epic Link field and once copied remove the Parent Link field from the screen .

I need to move the issues to a different instance of Jira using Configuration Manager for Jira plugin. Since this plugin does not support "Parent Link" field , I want to copy the Parent Link value to the Epic Link field

What could be the best way to achieve this scenario?

Hi @Sandhya Muthukumar! Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Actually, the "Epic Link" field is being replaced by the "Parent Link" field, so the one you should avoid using is th "Epic Link" field. I recommend you to change everything you have related to this field and change it to the "Parent Link" field.

I leave you a link so you can read more about this new change: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/upcoming-changes-epic-link-replaced-with-parent/

Thank you for the response Santino. I am trying to copy the value to Epic Link because I need to migrate the issues to a different instance of Jira using Configuration Manager Plugin. This plugin does not support Parent Link field.

Well @Sandhya Muthukumar if that´s the case, I think you should do that with bulk change or creating an automation that, using the Lookup Issues search, copies the value from Parent Link into Epic Link.

You can use a basic filtre in the Lookup Issues action such as PROJECT = "EXAMPLE".

This change is only for Jira Cloud. How would you do this in Jira Data Center?
