Create hyperlink from user URL with two inputs?

Nadim Tahmass April 7, 2020

I am fresh to Jira so please bare with me.

Is it possible to create two custom fields where the user first inputs the URL and the second input for what the hyperlink will be displayed as using that URL. For example

CF1: Input URL: www.whateverbahdhdu.com

CF2: Display URL as: whateverhajdidheb

So when the issue is created it will display what the user created as the hyperlink with that URL.

That's interesting. Is there a reason you want to do it with fields and not markup?

I'm not sure what markup is exactly. Basically when the user creates an issue, I would like for them to input a URL and what they want that URL to be displayed as so the ticket can have background.

Markup is how you can type some characters and it formats the text, like how typing @ will prompt you to pick a user to get their attention.

Are you using regular Jira or Jira Service Desk? In regular Jira there is an insert link option in rich fields, just like here, were users can enter the URL and text to make pretty links. It would be a matter of whether you think you can educate them into doing it.

I am using regular Jira. I saw the custom field URL but that only allows the users to input it as a URL. I don't recall seeing something which allows the users to enter a text for a hyper link though.

You would use a regular text field - multi line. Then set the renderer to wiki format. Then it would be a field like the description. The benefit of using a separate field other than the description is that you could put some instruction in the field description.

Would this suit your use case?
