Hi Tharunkumar,

If it were a new installation, the answer would be "in whichever one you have more experience in or support for".  Same as the "which database" question - go to your DBA team and ask them what they would prefer to support.

But, you're creating a test server for an existing installation.  The answer for that is based on "a test system should be as similar to a live system as possible".  So use Azure.

Could you please share the rationale for choosing Azure over AWS for the Jira Server test environment, given our live instance is on AWS? Jira server 7.9.2 and database 9.6...

You said you were planning to use Azure.

But yes, if your production system is AWS, then ideally you should run Test on AWS as well.

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- , We planning to setup jira datacenter test env in Azure only but current instance is in aws....How can we upgrade and migrate from different cloud..Once restore all data to test env (azure)it will work or not same like Production env in aws..

You are working with Server/DC, not Cloud here, just to be completely clear.

There are two ways you can migrate to a new server:

  • Install exactly the same version of Jira Server/DC on the target server
  • Start with an empty database of the same type as the source server
  • Get it running with a single, internal administrator user, and run it through the initial setup
  • Install all the apps you have installed on your source system
  • Copy the directory <jira home>/attachments to the target system
  • Then, either
    • Run an XML export of the source service and import it into the new one
    • Stop both systems, backup the source database, restore it into the target database you've just created, restart Jira and run a full locking re-index

I strongly recommend the database method for all but the smallest of Jira Server systems.

I am sorry, I do not understand that.  Do you need us to talk more about this?

After Migrate to new server, it will works right like Workflow,Customfield (configuration)etc..Incase any any missing Projects or configuration...so,we are using Project configuration plugin or configuration management Plugin for Export all Project to Import Project to New server...
