Creating workflow for issues in backlog

Hi

A quick question does anyone know of a way to create a workflow for a product backlog to prevent issues being closed prematurely.

Hi Tony, welcome to the Community. So how do you define "prematurely"? I would need that detail to suggest an answer I think. It might be that you want the issue to navigate thru some specific statuses before arriving at Done or it might be that you want some fields completed before moving to done or something else.

Yes ideally moving the issue through specific statuses before being allowed to be marked as 'Done'.

I know this can be done within a sprint but wasn't sure if it can be done for issues that sit in the Product Backlog.

So then you need to use Classic project, if you are not already, and edit the current workflow or create a new workflow. Then you need to ensure the transitions are created to align with your needs. You might find this article useful - what-are-jira-workflows
